How has the last 12 months been? What have been the highlights? they have been insanely hectic but amazing. Tones of travelling around the globe for gigs. I guess the highlight would of been releasing my Jackathon compilation.
How long do you spend looking for new music for radio 1? I’m constantly searching and researching. There is not enough time in the day to download the amount of music i get sent. Its not easy to keep up. It seems like everyone, everywhere is a dj or a producer making dance music.
What gave you the idea for the Jackathon? I was playing somewhere. I think in berlin. For something like 8 hours straight and one of my friends said it was like being at a jackathon. That’s where the word came from. Then i started the parties in 2009. To bring friends and artists i admire together for a big jam session. I was getting a bit lonely travelling by myself all the time so i thought i would bring everyone together.
What is jack/house music to you? Jack is word that came from chicago. It was a dance move that was created in the clubs that went along with this music that was also being made at the same time. I guess its a feeling. To move your body in a certain way. To sweat. To not give a shit. To freak out and let all your worries leave you on the dancefloor.
When did you first get infected with it? In Canada or after you’d moved away or…? I guess around 1996 when i met richie hawtin. He introduced me to a whole new world. I knew a bit about it. I guess i just needed someone to show me through the door. Couldn’t of asked for a better person.
Do people react to it the same all over the world? People can react quite different all over the world. There is a general excitement. But some people dance different. or wear different clothes. Some jump up and scream and some don’t but they all love it just the same. They’re all there for the right reason and that is to let loose and feel good.
Can we expect any more productions fro you any time soon? I have a watergate compilation coming up and more jackathon e.p.’s coming your way.
What should people expect from you at Krush in London? To sweat and dance their arses off!!!
What else you working on? My new radio show starts thrusday april 19th. Called “Radio 1 Residency”. midnight-2am every 3 weeks. You can expect to hear lots of fresh new music and guests poppin in.
What do you like to do outside of music? Well its hard as music does consume 95% of my time. But when i do get some free time i am all about my friends. Movies, nice dinners, drinking wine and laughing with people i don’t get to see very much. Reading books as well. I just got a kindle for my birthday.
